The OCU/ISA programs include comfortable housing in shared, fully-furnished apartments. These accommodations are conveniently located in three traditional, well-established neighborhoods inclose proximity to the American University of Rome. The neighborhoods of Trastevere (Tra-ste-ve-ray), Monteverede (Mon-ta-ver-day), and Gianicolense (Jah-ni-col-en-zay), are desirable residential neighborhoods located on the west side of Rome, just south of Vatican City. Compared to other parts of Rome, these neighborhoods have less noise and traffic, more green areas, better access to public transport, and are conveniently located just a short distance from historic center of Rome.

There is generally only one to two student apartment units per building, and neighboring residents are typically middle-class Italian families who own their apartment. Most ISA apartments have 2-3 bedrooms, lounge/living room, kitchen, and bathroom(s). Bedrooms are typically double-occupancy. Each apartment is equipped with basic furnishings and supplies, including one single bed (per student), bed linens and towels, a closet/clothing storage space, basic cookware and kitchenware, a table and chairs and furnished sitting area. Desks, when available, are to be shared by all occupants. Each student is expected to provide his/her own paper and cleaning products, as well as replacing light bulbs. Many apartment units include a washing machine.

All apartments include a computer that is connected to the internet via a cable modem.

All apartments are same-sex, non-smoking environments.

All apartments are either within a quick walking distance to the American University of Rome, or are conveniently located near public transit routes relative to the university. Travel times to the university vary but generally range between 15-30 minutes. Detailed travel instructions to/from the university and ISA Office will be provided upon arrival.
